Pew Potatoes

I recently have read two rather interesting and unsettling books.  The journey I feel GOD is leading me into is a deep, dark and dangerous road I would rather leave to someone else.  But, then, that is how we all feel, isn’t it?  We all feel that we are inadequate for the job and that GOD should call on someone else.  But, our Moses excuses don’t fly with GOD.  He calls whom He chooses and it is our calling to obey, whether or not we “feel” adequate.

Drawing the line in the sand and then being willing to step over it takes courage.  To say that we are surrendering our lives to Jesus and then actually living like we are/have…well sometimes are two totally separate things and sometimes miles apart in real life.

The question I was asked from one of the books was “am I living my life like I really believe that we have a mighty GOD?”  Is my “surrendered life” actually being a light to the dark and hurting world?  Do I really believe that I have a mighty GOD that is the GOD of impossibilities and really cares about the world we live in?  Does my GOD care about justice and what is He doing about all the injustice out there now?

Let me answer that for you.  GOD, our GOD, is waiting for us to stop being pretty little judgmental pew potatoes attending our church activities every week in the safety of our cul-de-sac communities.  We are safe in our comfort zone with all the appearance of Christianity, but in reality living a life far from what our LORD Master intended us to.

Do we have the courage to step over the line, surrender to GOD and be obedient to His directions?  Do we have the courage to stop being safe pew potatoes?  Do we have the courage to lay down our life to save it, really believing that GOD is who He says He is and can do what is impossible?

GOD cares about everything.  He is always working.  His apparent silence is not Him being lazy on anything.  We are not even close to being able to understand His ways and thoughts.  Our role is to get out of our comfort zones and submit everything to Him. We are to be obedient to His plan, direction and will for our life, realizing GOD made no exception for His own Son and expects the same of us, His children.

God places the Life of His only begotten Son into us.  He chooses to work through us as His body. We are the church, not the building we assemble in.  We have no life other than the Life of our LORD Master living and working in and through us to accomplish His will.  Our part is to understand that our old life – the life in sinful Adam/man was taken to the grave and left there.  When, by the power of the Holy Spirit, GOD raised His Son from death, we were raised with Him.  The old man stayed in the grave and we became new creatures in Christ Jesus.  We have no other life but His.

Surrender to our LORD Master and don’t look back and pine for the old things of this world.  Look up and seek the heavenly things of the LORD Master’s life and purpose for you.  Let Him be your life – your only life.  When Jesus cleansed the Temple, when He was done, He alone stood in the midst of it. He was LORD and there was no other in the His Temple.  Your heart is the same way.  Let Jesus cleanse your heart – give all up but Him. Let Him take all that is not of Him and remove it from your life. Let Him alone stand and be the one and only LORD governing your heart. If we do this, we will be in His hands and perfect plans for us.

LORD GOD, how ignorant we are and prideful.  We hold onto things we think we need or want, never fully understanding what we really have in You.  Help us to unveil our hearts and eyes to Your Son’s Life in us.  Help us to stop living in a new and improved Adam and just experiencing You from the outside.  Help us to give up that old life and become the new creatures we are in You. Help us LORD Master to not quench the Holy Spirit’s work in us as He reveals more and more of You to us.  Help us to just let go of our life and take our place hidden in Your Life.

LORD Master, we seek You and only You.  Open our deaf and blind hearts so that You may reveal Yourself as LORD over all we are, say and do.  We cannot do this alone.  We ask You to change us in ways only You can.  We love You.  We surrender to You.  We want to know You as You know us and abide in You as You abide is us.  We want to know You from the inside out.

Thank You LORD GOD.  Father GOD, I ask these things in Your precious and beloved Son’s name. How wonderful and majestic Jesus’ name is. Jesus, Your name is above all other names and worthy to be worshiped forever.  How beautiful Your name is Jesus. So wonderful, in fact, that I can’t even fathom the depth and power of Your name in my simple mind.  I look forward to spending eternity knowing You more and more. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me as I learn to abide in You

Thank You.

Amen
