‘”Hatred stirs up trouble; love overlooks the wrongs that others do.” Proverbs 10:12 (CEV)
Today’s story is not mine, but is a perfect example of this verse, above, in action and allowing our
LORD Master’s Love to flow through us so that we can overlook the wrongs others do to us.
“WHAT LOVE OVERLOOKS*
A woman celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and on this special occasion, one of her grandchildren asked her the secret to her happy and enduring marriage.
She smiled and said, “Well, sweetheart, when your granddaddy and I married, I made a list of ten things I would overlook in his personality. Just ten things I didn’t like, but was willing to forgive. I decided on that day that anytime one of those ten things would come up, I would overlook it for the sake of harmony in our marriage.”
One of the grandchildren said, “Granny, tell us the list. We want to know what was on the list.” She paused and said, “You know, to be honest with you, I never really wrote them down. But every time your grandfather would do something that made me mad, I would think to myself, ‘Lucky for him that’s one of the things on my list.’ ”
Relationships are hard work, and difficulties and conflicts will come. But they are not the end of the world. Real love is willing to overlook slights, annoyances, and petty disagreements, choosing instead to take a long term view. “We love,” the apostle John wrote, “because He first loved us.” Our only hope as human lovers is to allow the love of Christ to flow through us. We can hope, believe, and endure because we have been perfectly loved.”
How awe inspiring to think that the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, the GOD of the universe, loves us. A love so great that He looks at our sin and says “Through My Mercy and the blood of My Son, Jesus and your faith to believe in Him, you are a child of Mine and because you are My child, your sin is forgiven.” As the story above states, GOD could say ‘Lucky for him that’s one of the things on my list.’ – but luck has nothing to do with it. Only because of the sacrifice Jesus made by dying on the cross did our sin become paid for. Because of His risen life, His blood now covers us. When GOD the Father looks at us, He sees us through His Son’s payment. Jesus paid our debt and “none of our sins are on His list!”
Are we like the Grandmother above in the story, overlooking and forgiving or are we hypocrites wanting the love and forgiveness from GOD or other people, without extending what we have received from GOD to the others around us?
Is GOD holding up a mirror in front of you now? Who’s reflection is He showing you? Trust Him fully and humble yourself before Him. Learn what He is teaching you and your reward will be the sweetness of obedience and fellowship with the GOD of Heaven.
Oh, Father GOD, thank You for Your Mercy and Love. Thank you for Your Son, Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross. Thank You Jesus for Your payment of my sins through Your death. Thank You that You rose to Life and You are seated in Heaven at Your Father’s right hand.
Because of Your Love for me, LORD Master, I am forgiven and my GOD, Your Father in Heaven does not see my sin when He looks upon me because He sees You. Thank You Father GOD, Thank You.
Father GOD, keep showing me my sin so that I can repent of it and moment by moment and only by Your Grace, live in Your Will and not my own. LORD Master when You call me home, I pray I will hear “well done, good and faithful servant.”
Thank You!
Amen
